Discipling may not be dependent on having a great place to meet, but it sure does help to have somewhere to hang out and have an undistracted, deep conversation.
Coffee shops like Misha's in Alexandria offer not only that, but also have communal tables where you can meet complete strangers without feeling awkward.

I'm indebted to blog reader William Wilkie for turning me on to this fantastic web site about building communities that work.  It introduced me to this concept called the "third place."  The first place being your home, the second place your workplace, and the third place is where you do community.  College towns excel at building third places.

A good example is this place in Richmond, VA that provides "a
free gathering space amid a coffeehouse atmosphere where people can share their ideas."

Where do you like to spend time discipling?  We need to share our ideas.
