When I visited Dudu in Swaziland, I saw she was dying. Lindsay Stahl (a World Racer) later discovered what it means to die with her.

The ministry of reconciliation requires that we die with people in all sorts of ways. We die to our rights. We put our hopes in jeopardy. When we engage in the ministry of reconciliation, we vicariously experience the death that another human being in their broken state is going through. The dying that they do may be physical as in Dudu's case, or it may be a dying to self, or a dying to dreams.

It's hard and it begs for the nonjudgmental presence of others. Jesus modeled that dying for us in the way he lived. When we begin to die with others, bearing with their poverty and giving them what they lack, Jesus brands us as his own, he says, "Look at the way she loves, this one is mine."
