If God has got you living in a certain place, you ought to feel good about it. When we asked God in 1994 where in the world we should move once we’d sold our home in West Palm Beach, He showed us Gainesville. Here are a few reasons why I still feel good about it.

Yesterday afternoon, Bill, Joe, and I hopped in Clint’s boat and found our own island on Lake Lanier (we called it “Isle of Man” as we men were its only occupants).

Last night, Karen and I watched the fireworks display along with a flotilla of other boats. The reflection on the water doubled the brilliance of the spectacle.

Half an hour up the road are the mountains and other spectacles like 150 foot high Duke’s Creek Falls. When I need to brainstorm out a problem, I’ll grab a couple of friends and we’ll go rent a cabin by the lake in the mountains.

On Friday I fly to Mexico to pick up Leah. The drive to the airport will take me just over an hour. If I need to fly anywhere in the world, I can often do it with a direct flight out of Atlanta.

Recently, the rest of the world has been discovering the combination of factors that makes Gainesville special and is moving here in numbers. I guess it was inevitable, but you can still get a house for a third what it costs elsewhere.

Periodically over the years I’ve thought about moving, but a day like yesterday reminds me we’re blessed. If you're not in a great spot in life, here's my invitation: move here.
